Occupy Davis News Update of the Day: At a student rally today in UC Davis, Chancellor Linda Katehi made a brief announcement concerning the now-infamous pepper-spraying incident that occurred in the quad last week.
Katehi, who personally ordered UCD police to remove the Occupy protesters from the quad, said she was sorry and feels “horrible about what happened.”
Many of the thousands who gathered to hear Katehi speak were not impressed by her platitudes, calling for the termination of Police Chief Annette Spicuzza and UCD Lt. John Pike. Both Spicuzza and Pike, as well as a third unidentified officer, were recently placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
Students and faulty members have demanded that Katehi herself to resign, but, speaking on ABC’s Good Morning America, Katehi said she was staying put.
“I really feel confident at this point the university needs me,” Katehi told GMA. “There are so many critical issues to be addressed and we really need to start the healing process and move forward.”
